I am considering entering into the religious life. How would you suggest learning more about becoming a monk, friar, or priest?

The best way is to talk in person with a priest, a monk, or a friar to learn what the vocation of each is actually like. Yo may want to start by simply setting up an appointment with your parish priest. Don't try to start a conversation with him after Mass on a Sunday - he won't have the time to devote to you then. Rather, call and make an appointment to meet with him.
The next step would be to contact your Diocese's Vocations office; they will be able to provide you with information on how to contact various religious communities that serve in your local area. They will also be able to provide you with more information on the diocesan priesthood. And they most likely offer retreats and other spiritual helps to those who are trying to discern a vocation. There is a wonderful resource on the web, http://www.visionguide.org/, which gives information and contacts for many religious communities in the United States. I highly recommend checking it out.
Although I amnot able to talk with you inperson, I would wlecome you to check out my vocation story at http://www.thepunkpriest.com. Click on About at the top and then on Vocation Story at the left. I would encourage you to ask other priests their story as well. You will quickly learn that God calls all kinds of men in all kinds of ways to serve at His altar.
